Travel Data Control lets customers choose their own maximum mobile surfing budget abroad

Back to news index

Brussels, 4 June 2012 – Lots of customers still hesitate to use the Internet on their mobile phone or tablet abroad as they have no view on what it will cost them. Travel Data Control clears Mobistar customers of that worry: he or she sets his or her own maximum budget for mobile data use abroad. Once this limit has been reached, surfing is blocked. Further good news: the Travel Data Daily formulas from Mobistar will become even more advantageous as from 1st July. Also as of that date, these formulas are extended to 4 more countries: Morocco, Turkey, Croatia and Egypt.

When customers are surveyed why they don’t use their mobile phone for Internet browsing abroad, 1 out of 2 people say it is too expensive and 1 out of 3 say they can’t control how much it will cost(1). In other words, travellers are afraid of using their smartphone or their tablet the same way they do at home in Belgium because they believe it will lead to a bad surprise on their invoice at the end of the month.

Mobistar will help removing this psychological barrier by launching Travel Data Control on 5th June. This new service, which is a première on the Belgian market, enables users to set their own maximum budget for using mobile Internet abroad. If they choose a limit of 20 euros per month, for example, they’ll receive a text message alert when this amount is reached and mobile Internet access on their handset will then be blocked. Naturally, if users wish to keep browsing, they can increase this personal limit at any time, while also choosing the amount they want to add on. One important detail: customers only pay if they actually use mobile data abroad.

Activation of the Travel Data Control service is simple and free. To set the personal limit, the simplest option is to go to the Mobistar portal (m.mobistar.be/account) and click on “manage my roaming budget”. If they wish, customers can also activate the service by dialling #130# on their phone, by going to the customer zone on the Mobistar website, or by going to a Mobistar Center.

On top of that, Mobistar data roaming tariffs become even more attractive. From 1st July, the daily bundle included in the Travel Data Daily offer will increase from 2 MB to 5 MB for 2 euros. For heavy users, the Travel Data Daily bundle at 5 euros increases from 10 MB to 20 MB, while the price of the 50 MB Travel Data Daily bundle is reduced from 15 euros to 10 euros. Activating these bundles is simply a matter of going to the customer zone on the Mobistar website or dialling the code #130# and then selecting the desired formula. Customers who are already activated automatically benefit from these new, more advantageous options.

To top it all, Travel Data Daily will enable affordable Internet browsing in even more countries. Today, these bundles cover the European Union, Switzerland, USA and China. From 1st July, Croatia, Morocco, Turkey and Egypt will be added to that list. Marvellous news for Belgian tourists, as every year many of them spend their holidays in these four countries!

It should be pointed out that these Mobistar roaming initiatives are supported by the Orange Travel “Customer Experience Charter”. This Charter makes a number of major commitments to the customer: transparency, responsive customer help, and reliable roaming networks.
