Last May, on the occasion of the 7th anniversary of the Orange’s Thank You loyalty program, Orange Belgium enabled its customers to donate the value of their loyalty gifts to organizations that support sustainable practices. This campaign successfully raised a total of €104,726 for local nature conservation associations Natuurpunt and Natagora.
Our customers have helped to raise €104,726
For several years now, Orange Belgium has been rewarding its customers’ loyalty and celebrating their special occasions such as birthdays, bank holidays... Via the Orange Thank You program, they can get additional data, discounts on goods or services and much more. In May 2023, Orange Belgium gave its customers the option of exchanging loyalty rewards for a donation to partners Natuurpunt and Natagora. This resulted in generous customers raising €104,726. Of this, €53,934 are donated to Natagora and €50,792 to Natuurpunt.
Thanks to the donations to Natuurpunt, Orange Belgium will invest in the protection of wild bees and purchase nature reserve for the creation of ‘wild bee sanctuaries’. Indeed, wild bees have a hard time to survive and are disappearing quickly. In the last 50 years, Flanders lost half of its insects[1]. On the other hand, they are the most important pollinators for wild plants. Orange Belgium aims to buy extra reserves in Pertseveld/Rosdel and monitor the wild bee populations. A part of the donation money will also be spent to support the Natuurpunt campaign ‘Summer of Insects’, and on the development of a better User Interface for the ObsIdentify app. This application enables people to collect wildlife observations on their phone and, thanks to image recognition, gives tailor-made tips for a better knowledge of nature.
With the donations to Natagora, Orange Belgium helped in the development and extension of the 30 hectares (= 40 football fields) Semois Nature Reserve by financing 2,52 hectares and thus offered more space to nature. Increasing the surface area multiplies the chances of the appearance of diverse flora and fauna. These new species then benefit the entire existing ecosystem. Located in the Semois basin, the Breuvanne and Plate dessous les Monts nature reserves are important refuges within an invaluable ecological network. These reserves are magnificent examples of Natagora's management of nature reserves. Not only in terms of the rarity of the environments, but also in terms of their regular maintenance over the years. This maintenance is essential to preserve the areas and the species that thrive there. Orange Belgium will also propose guided tours within the Semois Nature Reserve for its customers who did a donation.
Isabelle Vanden Eede, Chief Brand, Communication & ESG Officer at Orange Belgium explains: “I would like to thank all our customers who decided to transform their loyalty rewards into donations for others. We are delighted to be able to continue our work with important organizations who share our values. As a responsible operator, Orange Belgium cares deeply about the environment. Thanks to these Orange Thank You-donations, we are strengthening our long-term commitment to the planet.
