Orange Belgium launches internet satellite service
Orange Belgium extends its range of high broadband connectivity solutions. The new ‘Orange Satellite’ offer, launched in collaboration with Nordnet, enables customers in Belgium to benefit from high broadband internet, even in the remotest locations, for EUR 49 per month. This latest connectivity offering supports Orange’s ‘Lead the Future’ strategy and underscores the corporate brand signature ‘Orange Is Here’.
Orange broadband everywhere in Belgium
Orange Belgium, the nationwide gigabit network provider, is expanding its range of connectivity offerings and now includes satellite in its technology mix. Orange Satellite is aimed at customers (retail, SoHo and selected B2B) who are not eligible for HFC (Hybrid Fiber Coaxial) or fiber connections. The solution is marketed through Orange Belgium's distribution channels and operated by Nordnet, an Orange subsidiary company that has been specializing in satellite internet for 15 years.
For EUR 49 per month, users can enjoy broadband speeds of up to 200 Mbps downstream and 10 Mbps upstream, with unlimited data usage. The satellite kit, consisting of a parabolic antenna, mast, cables, satellite modem and a Wi-Fi 6 enabled NordnetBox, is available for EUR 399. Customers can choose to install the kit themselves with a detailed step-by-step user guide or with the help of a local professional recommended by Nordnet and Orange Belgium.
A more durable technology based on the expertise of the French and European space industry
Orange Satellite is based on the Eutelsat Konnect VHTS (Very High Throughput Satellite) satellite, designed by Thalès Alenia Space in Cannes and launched by Ariane 5 in September 2022. Weighing 6.5 tons and measuring 9 meters in height, Eutelsat Konnect VHTS is the largest European satellite ever designed. With its GEO (Geostationary Earth Orbit) technology, it alone can cover up to 60 countries in Europe, North-Africa and the Middle-East, making for a limited carbon footprint compared to LEO (Low Earth Orbit) or MEO (Medium Earth Orbit) alternatives. The satellite's environmental footprint is further reduced thanks to its 100% electric propulsion, which is less polluting than previous propulsion systems using chemicals.
