Mobistar reduces its CO2 emissions by 400 tonnes a year thanks to homeworking

Less time spent tied up in traffic, a calmer environment making possible greater concentration, a better balance between private and professional life, greater flexibility, savings on fuel costs, and of course a reduction of the ecological footprint… The benefits deriving from homeworking are numerous - for employers, for employees and for the Earth.

It is for all of these good reasons that Mobistar, one of Belgium’s pioneers when it comes to homeworking, is participating for the second consecutive year in National Homeworking Day. The awareness-raising actions conducted within the company encourage more and more people to participate. Last year, 350 employees worked at home on this special day, and this year Mobistar hopes to do even better. In all, over 900 employees of Mobistar are presently working at home on an either occasional or regular basis (in 2011, 165 of them worked at home one or two days a week, while 755 of them did occasional teleworking).

National Homeworking Day also offers a chance to confirm that Mobistar’s promotion of this new way of working is truly beginning to yield results. The company CO2logic, which is specialised in the calculation, reduction and offsetting of CO2 emissions, considers that Mobistar´s homeworking policy is eliminating 400 tonnes of CO2 emission a year, thanks to the sharp decrease in the number of journeys between the home of the employees and their workplace. Regular homeworking (one or two days a week) makes it possible to reduce CO2 emissions by 147 tonnes a year, while occasional homeworking (for which CO2logic based itself on an average of 24 days a year) makes it possible to avoid generating 253 tonnes of CO2.
