Brussels, 25 November 2013 – Mobistar opens its 4G network today in 30 cities and towns to its customers using a subscription including mobile data (Dolphin or Panther) or to those who use an Internet Everywhere formula. These Customers will receive extra 4G surf volume on top of their subscription to try out 4G technology if they use a 4G compatible device (smartphone or tablet). Early 2014, Mobistar will add at least 40 cities and towns to its 4G network and launch its commercial offer. By 2015 Mobistar plans to have the same 4G coverage as today's 2G coverage.
Mobistar is speeding up the roll-out of its 4G network and is giving several thousand of its customers the opportunity today to discover 4G technology in 30 cities and towns in Belgium1. Dolphin and Panther customers as well as Internet Everywhere users with a 4G compatible device (smartphone or tablet) must register in a Mobistar point of sale or online on www.mobistar.be/4G to take advantage of the 4G Discovery. Until the moment of the commercial launch these customers will receive extra 4G surf volume on top of their normal contract to try out the speed and ease of the 4G network completely free of charge. Panthers and Internet Everywhere users receive 5GB of extra 4G surf volume every month and Dolphins receive 1GB of extra 4G surf volume every month. During the test, customers are able to monitor their 4G usage at any moment via their Customer zone and the MyMobistar app. When the monthly 4G surf volume has been used up, access to the 4G network is interrupted and the customers can continue to surf on the 3G network.
Mobistar has made it a priority to offer an optimum 4G customer experience and good indoor and deep indoor coverage. On the one hand the results of the 4G network tests show that the customer experience on the 4G network is equivalent to a fixed broadband connection at home. On the other hand, the acquisition of the 800 MHz licence allows good indoor coverage everywhere in the country. And the continuous investments in the improvement of the 2G/3G network are also showing results. Customers with the latest smartphones will now have a better customer experience for mobile Internet all over Belgium thanks to the higher 3G+ surf speed and a better coverage in and out of cities.
And finally, in the beginning of 2014 Mobistar will add at least 40 extra cities and towns to its 4G network and launch its commercial offer. By 2015 Mobistar plans to have the same 4G coverage as today's 2G coverage.
