Brussels, 24 June 2011 - Mobistar welcomes the decisions of the European Commission regarding the market analysis of the Belgian regulators for the broadband and TV-distribution markets, which were officially published today. The fact that these decisions were taken without entering into an additional investigation phase confirms that there are a clear number of competitive problems in the Belgian market today.
This Friday, the European Commission has officially issued its comments regarding the market analysis of the Belgian regulators for the broadband and TV-distribution markets.*
Mobistar welcomes the outcome of the European review process. Especially the fact that these decisions were taken without blocking comments should be seen as a clear recognition of the fact that competition in Belgium in the broadband and TV-distribution markets is not working properly. The decisions also recognize that the dominant market players in these markets should be subjected to a series of obligations in order to foster a more competitive and open market.
Moving forward, Mobistar therefore encourages the regulators to finalize their decisions in the direction they have initially given as soon as possible and this in order to allow a better outcome for competition and ultimately consumers.
