Mobistar´s 4G network today offers the broadest coverage in the country, reaching 92% of the Belgian population. In Brussels, the coverage attains 99%.
After having tested the 4G+ in Mechelen in April 2014, Mobistar will now be progressively making this technology (also called LTE Advanced) accessible to all of its customers. As of May 15th, the 4G+ will be available in Brussels (85% coverage), Mons (91% coverage) and Mechelen (99% coverage) within the framework of full-scale commercial testing. Other cities will be covered in the coming months.
A tripling of speed for 4G+ users and improved performance for all 4G customers
4G+ is a new technology that offers to users with a compatible device downloading speeds that are up to 3 times faster than 4G. It also permits an improvement of coverage and performance inside buildings. These speeds are made possible thanks to combining 4G frequencies at 800 MHz and 1800 MHz. 4G+ technology consists of aggregating these two frequency bands, thus offering improved performance. The speeds can reach 213 Mbps for downloading and 43 Mbps for uploading. With 4G+, the mobile Internet speed equals and sometimes exceeds the fixed Internet speeds of the main fixed Internet access providers in Belgium.
The introduction of 4G+ technology also improves the performances of Mobistar´s “classical” 4G. The use of the two frequency bands (800 & 1800 MHz) has a favourable impact for all 4G users because the bandwidth is higher. Transfer speeds can be up to 2 times faster.
These spectacular improvements in performance will thus be available in Mons, Mechelen and Brussels.
