The superiority of Mobistar’s 4G network established by the telecom regulator

Back to news index

Brussels, November 5 – The federal telecom regulator (IBPT) has published the new coverage maps for mobile operators. The map comparison tool confirms the superiority of Mobistar’s 4G network, both in terms of percentage of the population and geographic zones covered.

In order to provide an objective overview of the quality of mobile network coverage, the telecom regulator (IBPT) has developed a tool to visualize coverage quality. The maps used are provided by the mobile operators and have been field-checked by the regulator.

The new maps published by IBPT demonstrate the superiority of the Mobistar 4G network in terms of outdoor coverage. The extent of Mobistar’s 4G mobile coverage clearly stands out compared to its competitors, as shown on the IBPT website.

The deployment of the 4G network continues

Mobistar continues to expand its 4G network:

  • Commissioning new antennas to increase coverage;

  • Optimization network performance.

To date, the 4G network Mobistar offers 97% coverage indoors and 84% outdoors.

4G+ under deployment

In addition, Mobistar’s 4G+ technology is being deployed in test phase. Today 4G+ is available for 20% of Belgian population, 97% of them living in Brussels.

4G+ is a new technology which offers download speeds of up to 3 times higher than 4G and better coverage inside buildings. These speeds are made possible by the combination of 4G 800 MHz and 1800 MHz frequencies. 4G+ allows more efficient spectrum use, strongly improving performance.
